The pippy oak variety has an especially decorative vibrancy. The veneer figure is composed of scattered groups of bud-like burls with brown cores which resemble small roses. Clearly delineated growth rings and ring-shaped arrays of early-wood vessels adorn the grayish yellow, light brown to dark yellowish brown wood on the longitudinal plane with pronounced grain or stripes.
