The basic idea for the design of the residential duplex house on the outskirts of Ljubljana was that it should be open to the natural environment and closed against the rather busy traffic. The house was built as a low-energy solid wood building offering a perfect living space quality in touch with nature. The residential duplex house is composed of three units and a shady pergola, the two ground floor units are connected by a wooden terrace, and the upper unit serves as a sleeping unit with an exit to the terrace. Both units and the terrace on the ground floor are completed by a separated wooden pergola which lets plenty of light penetrate into the living spaces in winter, and provides additional shade in the summer. All other windows are shaded with wooden brise soleil serving both as a functional and decorative element.
