Having worked for many years in New Zealand as a furniture designer, Phil Cuttance opened his own agency in London in 2009. In making all of his prototypes himself his design ideas evolves throughout the manufacturing process as his knowledge of the materials and various technics improves.
His trademark style has come from taking this knowledge of the manufacturing processes of the materials he takes an interest in, and the marks these processes leave on the materials which he integrates into the final design and finish of the pieces where others would have done their best to hide them. He exposes his work in Europe, North America and Asia. His ‘Faceture’ project won the 2013 design prize from the London Design Museum.
