Ipe, otherwise known as Brazilian-Walnut, is prized for its beautiful wood grain and unsurpassed durability, making it the ideal hardwood to complement our high-performance concrete fire features.
These handcrafted inserts provide your fire feature with additional table space, resulting in year-round functionality. Ipe is naturally resistant to fire, water, insects, and rot. Additionally, our hand-selected boards are responsibly harvested from well-managed forests to provide a truly renewable resource. Each board is then precision machined on a high-speed CNC mill, sanded, and sealed to protect from stains and UV rays while enhancing the natural beauty of the wood. The finished boards are then assembled onto a powder-coated aluminum backer plate, creating the completed table insert.
Being a natural material, Ipe is not impervious to slight weathering over time. Depending on your climate and exposure to the elements, the color may fade to a silver patina. There may also be slight movement in the boards. These are natural aging characteristics and do not affect the structural integrity or longevity of the wood. To preserve the original color of the tabletop, seasonal maintenance including light sanding and re-sealing may be required. Our engineered production process also allows for board replacement when necessary or preferred by the client. Contact us for details and pricing.
If the Wabi-Sabi qualities of a natural product don't appeal to your design aesthetic, we recommend opting for our powder-coated aluminum tabletops. Not only are aluminum tabletops considerably lighter in weight, but they also provide a lower-maintenance experience.
