An eco-responsible hotel with a firm sense of luxury
Jardins de Babylone flew to Essaouira, a beautiful port city of Morocco, to create a large indoor vertical garden in Hotel Sofitel Essaouira Mogador Golf & Spa.
Located in the middle of a forest of eucalyptus, carobs, junipers, orange and olive trees, the hotel immerses you into the natural spirit of the area as soon as you arrive. This space was produced by Didier Gomez, a renowned interior architect. On entering the lobby, there is a vast green wall, wooden armchairs and large tree trunks giving nature an equal place in the hotel.
This indoor vertical garden designed by Jardins de Babylone is located at the foot of a small living room where you can taste at any time of the day an excellent mint tea prepared before you. It’s built into the middle of stones of Essaouira and the wood covering the walls and is made up of different features:
A total surface area of around 30 m² with a wall 7 m high and 4 m wide.
A careful selection of 8 different plant species.
Natural light in the false ceiling.
An open-circuit irrigation system: the hotel uses only recycled water, so water is re-used and pre-filtered to water the vertical garden.
These are just some of the plants used in this project:
Calathea maranta (peacock plant), a beautiful indoor plant.
Aeschynanthus japhrolepsis (lipstick plant), a perennial creeping plant.
Chlorophytum comosum (spider plant), a green plant with decorative foliage and mainly grown indoors.
Kentia palm, an elegant plant with a slender trunk and sought after for its decorative effect.
Fatsia japonica (Japanese aralia), a broad-bodied shrub with strong, small branches.
