For its ICON collection, Rondine wanted to suggest the allure of old stone and cement slabs, recreating the look left on stacked slabs by the passing of time. The collection is based on the latest colours that refer to NCS shades so they go with their colour schemes, ideal for residential or commercial applications.
The hexagonal shape adds extra interest, available in 2 of the range’s colour schemes for the first time. Cement mosaic tiles, known as cementine or pastine, first appeared in the late 1800s at the time of the industrial revolution, and were the direct result of the increase in the production of Portland cement. This type of flooring was used in apartment buildings from the start of the 1900s, also because the first six to eight-storey high buildings were being built outside the old town centre, especially in larger cities like Rome, to house the heavy influx of people arriving from different regions of Italy.
