With a backdrop of beautiful Jersey and a high quality specification in mind, CANAL was the right people to turn to.
The Interior of this multi-million pound house features three matching cantilever staircases with American walnut timber and low iron, glass balustrade running throughout the property.
The secret to this staircase’s success is in the hidden metalwork within the wall. The first fix involved mechanically fixing a structural steel stringer to the wall with protruding, welded cantilever channels. The stringer was then completely hidden by the wall finish for decoration. The steel cantilever channels provided access to the first floor to complete the same process for the remaining floors. The timber treads, glass balustrade and stainless steel handrail were then installed by the CANAL team at the end.
The unique features of the staircase are the treads. Beautifully formed solid American walnut box treads were manufactured at longer length so an end piece could be cut. The box treads were sleeved over the channel, glass balustrade installed in place and the walnut end piece installed after. This technique allows the grain of the timber to flow through the glass onto the end piece unlike the typical cross grain design seen.
