Björns Trädgård – Medborgarplatsen – Stockholms. Stockholms 1st permanent vertical garden.
Butong was selected for its low maintenance solution as the Stockholm Property Office went for their first vertical garden. It is situated in bustling Södermalm at a socially rough spot. It is an extreme situation with people brushing against the wall and Notable is that there has been no vandalism or tagging of the wall – while the wall behind was being tagged approximately once a month prior to the project.
Plants were chosen by a few criteria’s of which the most important was: winter green, hibernating in a beautiful or disapearing way. Also plants with beautiful flowers and some classic Swedish plants were used. Most plants can be found on the hillsides in the area.
Planting was done in two ways: First, parts of roots and plant parts were mixed in the substrate. And after closing the panels seedlings were placed from the outside.
