Centuries-old French fireplace : Centuries-old French fireplace in simple country style, with a modest cantilever forward. In beautiful honey-colored French limestone its provenance was most likely from the kitchen or servants’ quarters of a bigger home such as a « ferme-manoir ». It is particularly high and wide so was clearly a functional chimney-piece used for cooking, and could have contained a bread oven. Fairly austere and with minimal carving, it is presumed 18th or 19th century.
