In the middle of the circular Medals Plaza in Sochi, where the winners of the Olympic Winter Games received their medals, the gooseneck-like construction rises 46 m above the ground having presented the Olympic flame during the games.
An extensive renovation plan of the city of Le Mans and a housing association aimed at transforming the image of a social housing district developed in the years 60 and 70 by proposing a contemporary architecture and integrating insulating and energy-saving components. These two objectives were achieved thanks to the installation of exterior thermal insulation covering the existing facades of the six towers. In order to break with the monotony and repetitiveness of the prefabricated concrete facades, the architects chose Reynolux® Building cladding of high-gloss coated aluminium. Aluminium cassettes in two different textures were arranged randomly in vertical strips to offer the facade a dynamic aspect. The cladding of three towers has been coated with customised colours “champagne” and “bronze”, while the other three were decorated with “gold”.
The finishes consist of three layers of paint type PVDF 70/30. They provide a brightness of 30 % and an extremely durable finish, adapting perfectly to this type of renovation. From the observer’s point of view and depending on the orientation of the tower, the colours subtly vary in the light.
