ApplicationsThis type of cloth is common where materials are exposed to intense heat, such as exterior canopies and theater curtains, or in public and commercial spaces occupied by large numbers of people.
TechnologiesSuitable fire retardants include those derived from tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium salts, from minerals such as magnesium hydroxide or boron compounds, and from synthetic materials such as PCBs.
How to chooseVerify compliance with applicable safety regulations for the country and use. A fabric which meets fire safety standards for upholstery may not necessarily be suitable for theater drapery.
Determine whether the fabric is inherently flame-retardant and will not be removed by washing, or if it has a flame-retardant coating. The latter may require periodic testing and carry a limited guarantee. Follow washing and care instructions carefully to avoid removing the retardant or reducing its effectiveness.
