An air handling unit is used to remove stale air and circulate conditioned air. It may be installed on the roof or in a machine room, and is normally connected to an air duct. It consists of a fan (or blower), heating and/or cooling elements and supply and return ducts.
ApplicationsThese units are found in large buildings, such as hospitals and offices. Optional features include a noise-reduction function, a control panel to facilitate operation, a duct thermostat, anti-vibration elements or a silencer.
TechnologiesSuch equipment can be direct gas-fired or a sealed, indirect gas-fired system.
How to chooseUnit size must be suitable for the volume of air to be treated. Building heating and cooling requirements will depend on properties such as its function, volume, number of occupants, climate, heat-emitting appliances and amount of direct sunlight. Consider the installation location, the possibility of using existing ductwork and special needs, such as weatherproofing.
